SUMMARY:Venice Carnevale 2026 | Guided Luxury Travel
DESCRIPTION:Step into Venice as into a living myth\, led by Jeanne Bresciani\, Ph.D.\, assisted by Rosemary Cooper —where water mirrors heaven\, marble breathes\, and beauty arises not only from opulence but from the hand of devotion. Art at the Heart of the Festival invites travelers to ascend and descend from the lofty vantage points of princes and princesses into sanctuaries of Venetian splendor within the palaces\, workshops\, and ateliers – where art is still born of patience\, love\, and tradition. \nHere\, we do not merely gaze upon masterpieces—we enter into their making. Through myth-based movement sessions\, ceremonial processions\, and encounters with artisans\, we awaken to the pulse of a city that remains\, in all its fragility\, eternal. \n\nClick here to learn more

SUMMARY:PERFORMANCE | Isadora Duncan in the Theater of Love & War
DESCRIPTION:Isadora Duncan in the Theater of Love and War\nSaturday\, September 6th\, 2025 | 7pm\n Jeanne Bresciani & The Isadora Duncan International Institute Dancers\n  \nWritten & Directed by Jeanne Bresciani\, Artist in Residence \nAssistant Directed by Rosemary Cooper \nRehearsal Direction by Celeste Royo \nCostumes by Janine Stockin\, Karen Sanders & Alicia Mugetti \nOriginal Choreographies by Isadora Duncan \nOriginal Choreographies and Reconstructions by Jeanne Bresciani \n  \nTickets Available Now!\n  \nOn Saturday\, September 6th\, 2025\, Jeanne Bresciani & the Isadora Duncan International Institute Dancers premier a dance-theater production\, entitled Isadora Duncan in the Theater of Love and War at the historic Woodstock Playhouse\, honoring Isadora and the Isadorables’ profound legacy in the iconic artists’ colony and the greater Hudson Valley during WWI. Featuring a rare reconstruction of Duncan choreography to Beethoven’s 7th Symphony\, Allegretto\, alongside new works\, the performance evokes impassioned mission with an urgency surrounding themes of exile\, resilience and the coming of age within nature as sanctuary. Set to music by Schubert\, Chopin\, Tchaikovsky and contemporary composers\, this theater of love and war conjures Duncan’s experimental vision—where art and spirited movement unite to become a language of hope and liberation. In that very landscape and moment of time that once inspired inconsolable and ecstatic Duncan raptures\, the IDII celebrates the timeless power of dance to transcend and transform. \n  \nHistory: \nMany do not know the history of Isadora and the six Isadorables in the States and of their prolonged stays in New York City and within the Hudson Valley during WWI. With Isadora\, better received in Europe than at home\, early in WWI six teenaged girls became her officially adopted children\, along with emergency wartime care of many other homeless\, refugee children from her school in Europe. The Duncan tenure in the States was sustained by the remarkable support and bountiful spirit of American entrepreneurs and their families along the Hudson River. \nThrough this production\, many shall learn of Isadora’s extraordinary force as inspiratrix of an epoch\, iconic in originality and oceanic in scope. She was equally incredible in giving all she possessed\, including her precious long-sought school in France as a hospital for the wounded\, never to be reclaimed. However\, greater still was her leadership drawing forth the United States into WWI with every fiber of her being through startling performances and vivid proclamations to save Europe and civilization itself. From this intense and stirring legacy\, the IDII was founded in 1977 by Maria Theresa Duncan and Kay Bardsley\, of which you are all a vital part\, persisting in its goals educational\, cultural\, philosophical and theatrical. \n  \nTickets Available Now!\nThis project is made possible with funds from the New York State Legislature and administered by Arts Mid-Hudson. \n\nHelp Us Bring the Vision to Life!\n  \nThe Isadora Duncan International Institute is actively seeking sponsors to support the upcoming premiere of Isadora Duncan in the Theater of Love & War\, taking place on September 6\, 2025\, at the Woodstock Playhouse. We welcome both financial contributions and in-kind donations—such as bubbly\, lodging\, catering\, printing\, or services—to help bring this powerful production to life. All sponsors will be recognized in printed programs\, digital materials\, and pre-show acknowledgments. Your support\, at any level\, helps sustain the arts in the Hudson Valley and honors Isadora Duncan’s enduring legacy through beauty\, movement\, and community. \n  \nLearn More About Sponsorship Here!

Embodied\, we enter the dance of evolution amidst the signs\, acting as a cosmic lens revealing the deep energy structure of the eternal psyche. \nThrough dance\, we discern the twelve archetypal powers of the indwelling signs\, brimming with potential to circle in transcendent procession. These signs constellate the relationship of earth to sun and place the individual within the solar infusion of consciousness\, intellect\, and divine mind. They symbolize where\, when\, and how divine light is hidden in matter. Streaming down to earth\, celestial bodies offer their elixir as star medicine. \nIn a symbolic language invoking divine\, human\, animal\, and inanimate forms\, the signs reunite us with lost powers and guide our mission as a lasting light when all others have gone out. To the Egyptians\, they were imperishable stars; to the Greeks\, sites of banishment or reward in the everlasting sky; and to the Italians of the Renaissance\, a signal star—each one’s personal magnetic north. \nWe bring an earth dance to the heavens to reclaim missing parts of ourselves lost in the space between. The dance steadies and frees us—one foot on the ground\, one eye on the stars. Each sign reveals the foundation of personality in order to clear obstacles and shape destiny. In glorious array\, they coax a balance between earth and heaven\, drawing us into the dance of personal myth. \nAs intermediaries between gods and men\, dancers embody the zodiac’s call. In our final performance\, we reflect the constellations above\, shining in the dance below.

SUMMARY:Performance! Brilliant Exile: Isadora Duncan in Paris
DESCRIPTION:BRILLIANT EXILE: ISADORA DUNCAN IN PARIS \n Word Dance Theater (www.worddance.org\, Inspired by the National Portrait Gallery’s extraordinary exhibit\, Brilliant Exiles: American Women in Paris 1900-1939\, and in partnership with La Maison Francaise\, the French Embassy in Washington\, D.C.\, proudly presents Brilliant Exile: Isadora Duncan in Paris. Join us for an evening of spell-binding and timeless Duncan dances accompanied by masterful pianist Carlos Cesar Rodriquez.  \nThe early 20th century brought many ambitious\, unconventional American women such as Isadora Duncan to Paris.  These “Brilliant Exiles” challenged the prevailing conceptions of female identity and redefined the image of modern womanhood. Themes such as autonomy and liberation of the female body; female identity and creative expression; art influenced by Nature; and the metaphysical in Art\, were at the heart of their Art.  Word Dance Theater provides unique insight into Isadora Duncan’s choreography from this period in an evening of dance\,  music\, and historical commentary. Word Dance Theater is joined by brilliant Duncan dancers\, Jeanne Bresciani and Rosemary Cooper from the Isadora Duncan International Institute\,( www.idii.org)  in bringing to vibrant life the master choreography of Isadora Duncan.   Join us for Brilliant Exile: Isadora Duncan in Paris followed by a Question/Answer session between audience and artists!   \nWhen: Thursday\, December 12\, 2024 at 7:30 \nWhere: Maison Francaise: 4101 Reservoir Rd\, Washington\, D.C. 20007 \nReserve Your Tickets Here!

SUMMARY:Express CPII | The Apotheosis of the Dance: Re-Beginnings with Beethoven
DESCRIPTION:The Apotheosis of the Dance:\nRe-Beginnings with Beethoven\nReconstructing Beethoven’s 7th Symphony\, Movement II – Allegretto \n  \nExpress Certificate Program II in Isadora Duncan Studies: The Dances \nSaturday\, November 9th\, 2024 \n  \nSchedule \nSaturday\, November 9th \n9am-1pm | 3pm-7pm \nInformal Showing 6pm – 7pm at Tempio di danza \nBoth Sessions Available In-Person & Live Via Zoom \nTempio di danza\, High Falls\, NY \nRegister Here!\n  \nAbout the Course: \nIf the highest goal of music is to connect one’s soul to one’s divine nature\, then Isadora’s efforts to dance to the music of Beethoven neared that apogee. She discovered a sublime language for revelation unto dance above all others in Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony\, the ‘Apotheosis of Music’. In Beethoven\, the maker\, she heard the humming of heartstrings and spied the celestial spacing amidst heavenly spheres ordained by the Greeks and dreamt by musical giants of all time. In differing yet exquisitely harmonious forms\, Beethoven and Isadora revolutionized the art of composition\, originating lasting testaments to humanism broaching new octaves of human feeling. As thunderclaps in history\, each defined the individual capacity for heroism in art leading all who follow. As ‘daughter of Prometheus’ on dancing grounds everywhere\, courage became her – to summon\, “Wisdom and Reason\, Joy and Sorrow Eternal\,” and to dare dance to this symphony.  Proceeding from Terpsichore to Euterpe’s lyric voice\, Melpomene’s tragic chord and Polyhymnia’s sacred vigil\, each of the Muses Nine join in indispensable accord.  We imagine no other of the choreographer’s masterworks reaching the explicit heights\, depths and underworld schema of the Allegretto.  In unending precedent\, before Isadora in time and everywhere in this opus\, Beethoven asked\, “convey to me your sorrow\,” that you might redeem it through your joy.  Now\, alas\, we respond. \nLet us enter these great works together: Movement I in reimagination and Movement II in reconstruction amidst a teeming throng of instruments\, ideas\, sparks and the flaming raiment of red drape. Therein\, we shall chart the solemn movements and whirling motifs of the Allegretto as handed down to me by Maria- Theresa Duncan; and we shall search the memory store of beholding her deep listening to re-animate the Poco sostenuto – Vivace. The memory theater is loaded with utterance spoken\, gesture expressed and movement made by the great dancer\, Maria-Theresa\, ever in vivid aliveness\, bearing witness and reverence to her adoptive mother and mentor\, Isadora. \n  \nJeanne Bresciani\, 2024

SUMMARY:DC Workshop Live & Via Zoom! Isadora Duncan: Threshold to the Mysteries
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Word Dance Theater \nIsadora Duncan: Threshold to the Mysteries\nWith Jeanne Bresciani\, Ph.D.\nFriday\, September 27th – Saturday\, September 28th\, 2024 Dumbarton United Methodist Church\, Washington\, D.C. \nHeld Live and Via Zoom \n  \nIn the beginning was the dance. Predating Greek theater as an art form\, women\, in spontaneous motion upon threshing grounds\, rhythmically stamped on stone to crush the grain\, nourish the populace and enact the “glorious childbirth of the dance.” In continuity\, we are fed via animate\, archetypal embodiment to dance\, interconnecting mystery to knowledge and to what lies between. Honoring the Greater Eleusinian Mysteries\, celebrated to vitalize the life force for almost 2\,000 years on the last 9 days of September\, we shall craft theatre-dance ceremonies of recollection in 9 hours together.  “Out of ourselves and something greater than all selves\,” in other words\, through the mysteries\, we shall pierce the veil not just to the within but to the above\, beneath and beyond\, bearing promise that what was lost of individual and communal totality and stability can be found. \n  \nRegister Here!

SUMMARY:Zoom CPI | Isadora from Inner Reaches to Outer Momentum: Dancing the Jungian Typologies Through the Labyrinth
DESCRIPTION:Isadora from Inner Reaches to Outer Momentum: Dancing the Jungian Typologies Through the Labyrinth\nThursday\, January 11th to Sunday\, January 14th\, 2024\n  \nUpon a sacred way in dancing steps our innate prima materia leads us cross the threshold… \nZoom Winter Study: Four-Day Intensive in the Technique and Choreography of Isadora Duncan with Jeanne Bresciani\, Ph.D. held live from Tempio di Danza \nAvailable via Zoom \nRegister Here\n\nSchedule:\nThursday\, January 11th \n4:00pm – 7:00pm (Hybrid) \nFriday\, January 12th \n10:00am – 1:00pm (Hybrid) \nSaturday\, January 13th \n10:00am – 1:00pm (Hybrid) \n4:00pm – 7:00pm (Hybrid) \nSunday\, January 14th \n10:00am – 1:00pm (Hybrid) \nAbout the Course: \nIsadora from Inner Reaches to Outer Momentum: \nDancing the Jungian Typologies Through the Labyrinth \n“dance is the art that gives expression to the human soul through movement\, but it is also the foundation of a complete conception of life” – ID \nIsadora Duncan possessed the unique ability to live from a totality of human potential and perceive all beings as vitally comprised of essential aspects – that of the mind\, body\, heart and soul\, never neglectful of spirit.  Her art constellates around these values calling for their re-emergence in individual inwardness\, imagination and centeredness toward expression\, expansion and wholeness. Among the first to permit herself the strong\, gravitational pull of authenticity\, she discovered a movement language of the soul. Through its’ inspirational and revelatory capacity\, it continues to usher dancers on a truer\, deeper and more complete life path. \nConcurrently\, to hone the self along the way\, C.G. Jung conceived a language of typologies to offer a nomenclature on the differing\, inborn personality types.  He created these typologies as unifying principles to aid in the integration of the self and the understanding of others. He identified two major personality ‘attitudes’ or frameworks for the process of living one’s destiny: from outward in; and from inward out – extroversion and introversion.  Additionally\, he codified types into four psychological ‘functions’ of consciousness or modes of orientation to support clear and viable engagement with one’s inner and outer world.  They were the functions of thinking and feeling for the rational\, organizing of indirect experience; and sensation and intuition for the non-rational\, perceiving of direct experience. \nSeamlessly within Isadora’s art these types are made visible. We find them\, too\, wherever hidden within the labyrinthine self upon the circuitous road of life. We shall meet them together at the Tempio reckoning with the powers of thinking\, feeling\, sensing and intuiting on inner and outer quests via personal and group movement exercises\, tableaux vivants\, vision poems\, physical theater\, dance technique and choreography. There we shall re-inherit these gifts through awareness into action allowing art’s subtle but cogent process the weight\, space and time to flow into beauty’s possibility. Epiphanies on self and other\, seen in a new light from a different perspective\, wait to be revealed via Jung’s semi-scientific slant.  May within these embodied realizations\, indecipherable secrets be given sense life that ‘the thoughts and feelings of the soul’ might brim with renewed vigor.  In Duncan works and those we forge as an ensemble\, we continue the spiral dance to grasp how and why we are meant for this place\, our world\, and this time\, 2024\, reverencing and reveling in being here now.

SUMMARY:Washington\, D.C. | Isadora & Maria-Theresa: In Panoply of Womankind
DESCRIPTION:Isadora & Maria-Theresa in Panoply of Womankind \nLed by Jeanne Bresciani\, Ph.D. with Word Dance Theater \nFriday\, November 17th – Saturday\, November 18th\, 2023 Dumbarton United Methodist Church\, Washington\, D.C. \n  \nDay I \nFriday\, November 17th | 7pm – 9pm Eastern \nCost: $50 (In-Person) /  $40 (Zoom) \n  \nDay II \nSaturday\, November 18th | 10am – 4pm Eastern \nCost: $150 (In-Person) /  $120 (Zoom) \n  \nIn-Person Attendance Shall Take Place At: 3133 Dumbarton St NW\, Washington\, DC 20007 \nRegister Here\n  \nAbout the Course: \nIsadora is revered as lodestar for feminism and likewise is esteemed for ‘intense womanliness’.  Goddess-like stature aside\, one wonders of these emblematic energies and greater contradictions co-existing within divinely human Isadora. \nWithout a coup de foudre at a tender age upon meeting ‘the last dancing Isadorable’\, Maria-Theresa Duncan\, I would have doubted an invincible female self-possession possible to hold the tension of such opposites. Isadora’s adopted daughter\, was a red-haired\, septuagenarian font of beauty and wisdom\, freedom and strength with no expiration date.  ‘The last dancing Isadorable’ disarmingly revoked all prohibitions versus the existence of a multi-dimensional\, complete woman. In powerful artistry via immersive techniques and teachings – a movement of the soul\, a religion of love and a treatise on living were unveiled. The collage of inspirations\, insights\, instincts and intuitions revealed the unsayable but never the undanceable\, to become the unassailable force field of androgyny. \nThe genius expression of personal and collective feeling\, thought and action has been passed down from Isadora\, to Maria-Theresa and on to each of us.  No one teaches us to be a woman\, but we are chiseled by the movement and stillness\, the music and silence\, the role\, the costume\, the mirror\, the magic to be freed into the full embrace of life.  May we meet to dance and discern\, never relinquishing our personal authority.  Let us heftily reconcile the feminine to the masculine\, shaping our own story\, exploring it\, dissecting it while keeping it alive\, mystery intact. \nWith gratitude to Cynthia Word\, Founding Director of Word Dance Theater\, for this call to meet and experience in movement the magnificent array of woman.  Presenting on this subject in the company of WDT in its wide-reaching breadth is of particular meaning as Cynthia is one of only two recipients of the Isadora Duncan International Institute Maria-Theresa Duncan Award\, presented at the Lansburgh Shakespeare Theater\, D.C. in 2010. \nJeanne Bresciani\, Ph.D.

SUMMARY:Eros: The Blind\, The Wounded & The Winged | From the Myth\, Movement & Metaphor Program™
DESCRIPTION:Eros: The Blind\, The Wounded & The Winged\n\n\nFriday\, September 29th to Sunday\, October 1st\, 2023\n\n\nIn-Person and Live Via Zoom with Jeanne Bresciani\, Ph.D. \nOpen to Movers of All Levels\n\n\nFrom the Myth\, Movement & Metaphor Program™\n\n\n \n\n\n\nRe-Beginnings to the Eros Seminars: \nThe Eros Arc of Creativity \nNestled in the myth of Eros is the irreducible power that appears insatiate to this god of love\, desire and sexuality.  He makes his demands known to us visibly and invisibly\, gently and harshly\, freely and bound.  He exacts his measure whether his urgency is heeded or ignored for we are ordained to live in his force field or live not at all. Invited or spurned he is summoned and impelled to act his ardor in directions as many as his arrows might traverse in multitudinous array. We meet him at differing ranges to these shafts: in the utter proximity of archetypal reaches as birthright\, in those near that house pregnant symbols and those at far reaches of the mystic and mythopoetic. \nThere we shall embrace him in the dance of life and recognize him in his full creative and destructive sway. In step with him\, we shall come to recognize the Divine Consort often tragically lost\, concealed or driven away for fear of his counterparts\, human and inhuman.  By his side\, much is promised and delivered.  There we shall seek a baptism of fire and the spirit\, with moistening of the soul\, grafting of body back to earth and an air in contagion to both clear and enchant the mind.  Let us do so to grasp the introverted\, extroverted and indelibly ‘centro-verted’ heart of the matter. \nThe Eros in us is born from Love’s source itself\, the storied and imaginative place of life experience. The notion into motion of a triune Eros as Blind\, Wounded and Winged\, conceived as a creative opus spanning the many arts\, demands focus and passionate intent. May we find the sight\, the kindling and the fearlessness to see\, feel and free ourselves in recognition of Love’s mystery as the magnum opus of our lives that it is. \nThe story of our life dictates the course of how we give and receive love. We shall actively and contemplatively move body\, heart\, mind\, spirit and soul to the next ground of being – alive in Love. Let us bring Venus and Mars down to earth passionately into Eros. \n~ From Jeanne Bresciani\, on the course \n\n\n\n\nSchedule: \nFriday\, September 29th \n\n\n10:00am – 1:00pm (In-Person Only) |  4:00pm – 7:00pm Eastern (Hybrid)\n\n\n\nSaturday\, September 30th\n\n\n10:00am – 1:00pm (In-Person Only) |  3:00pm – 6:00pm Eastern (Hybrid) | 8:00pm – 10:00pm Eastern (In-Person Only)\n\n\n\nSunday\, October 1st\n\n\n9:00am – 12:00pm (Hybrid) | 3:00pm – 6:00pm Eastern (In-Person Only)\n\n\nAbout the Myth\, Movement & Metaphor Program:\n\n\n\n\n\nA program combining studies in movement improvisation\, choreography\, archetypal psychology and mythology\n\n\nDesigned for students from diverse fields of study\, the goal of this training is to reanimate the place of myth and the mythic imagination through exploration\, experimentation and immersion in expressive arts\, studies in movement and relevant writings on myth and symbol. With an interdisciplinary approach to their research\, and careful guidance from program faculty\, graduates will be well poised to contribute to present day conversations on myth.\n\n\nProgram Components Include: ~ Language and movement improvisation ~ Supervised research and written course work on literary and movement studies ~ Choreographic research ~ Parallels to contemporary studies in archetypal psychology \n\n\nOpen to General Students as well as candidates in the Myth\, Movement & Metaphor Program.
